Combined Single Limit

A single liability limit that applies to all covered bodily-injury and property-damage claims from one accident.

Combined single limit (CSL) is one overall limit for all covered bodily injury and property damage from one incident. It is an alternative to split limits where each loss type has separate caps.

Claims logic

CSL simplifies claim payments because the entire pool of limits can be applied to any covered head of damage. This can increase flexibility after serious multi-line losses.

Underwriting and pricing

Insurers price CSL based on severity and frequency assumptions across both BI and property classes. Higher aggregate limits generally increase premium but can reduce disputes around category allocation.
